President Uhuru Kenyatta Attends IGAD Summit in Addis Ababa, 3rd May 2013

H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta attended his first summit of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), held in Addis Ababa, on 3rd May 2013. Taking place four days ahead of the London Conference on Somalia, on the day when the UNSC adopted resolution 2102 on the establishment of UNPOS was adopted, and against the background of the global consensus on the imperative to translate the opportunities presented by the recent gains to sustainable peace and development, the summit demonstrated the region’s unwavering support to the recovery of one of its members. Currently, Kenya is current rapportuer of IGAD.

Kenyan Heads United Nations Trade Body

Kenyan firm Ushahidi has designed an innovative internet modem, BRCK, specifically for Africa, in a bid to speed up broadband internet connectivity on the continent.

VENTURES AFRICA – Kenyan Dr Mukhisa Kituyi’s appointment to lead the United Nations Trade and Development body (UNCTAD) has finally been ratified by the General Assembly.

Dr Kituyi will serve as Secretary-General of UN Conference on Trade and Development for a term of four years beginning September 1, 2013.

New Kenyan Modem to Speed up Internet Connectivity

Kenyan firm Ushahidi has designed an innovative internet modem, BRCK, specifically for Africa, in a bid to speed up broadband internet connectivity on the continent.

The product was displayed at a TED Global conference in Edinburgh, Scotland by Ushahidi Director Juliana Rotich, who said she hoped the new internet modem will lead to a hardware revolution in Africa.

Kenya and Rwanda sign Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation

Rwanda is now one of Kenya’s key bilateral partners. This was evident during the signing of the Kenya/Rwanda Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation in Kigali on 31st March, 2010. The signing of the JPC means that Kenya and Rwanda will now cooperate in wide ranging areas including education, science and technology, agriculture, trade, forestry among other key sectors.
